The Chinese Shar-pei is quiet and polite in the home and has an independent disposition. Not the best choice for a first time dog owner as he likes to be in control and is headstrong.

The Shar-pei does not need extreme exercise, several brisk daily walks are just fine, so they do well in the city or suburbs. They should be familiarized with people at an early age so they do not become territorial.
