BREED PERSONALITY
The Shih Tzu is known for its bubbly, happy disposition and they tend to get along with people of all ages. Because of their short muzzles, they are not big chewers but they love digging and some delight in bothersome barking. Shih Tzus are believed to have originated in Tibet and were later bred in China as companion dogs for Chinese royalty. They were highly prized by the Chinese emperors and were often kept as lap dogs in the imperial court. The name "Shih Tzu" means "Lion Dog" in Chinese. They were named this because their appearance was meant to resemble that of a lion, a revered symbol in Chinese culture.

The Shih Tzu has a strong desire to be with people and the love walks and sitting in laps. They enjoy training and learning new tricks but beware, too many treats can lead to an obese Shih Tzu.
