WHEATEN TERRIER: IRISH FARM DOG, HAPPY, FRIENDLY AND DEVOTED
BREED PERSONALITY
More friendly than most terriers, the Wheaten is happy, lively, and very sociable.....which means he needs a lot of friendships. Wheatens have a high energy level – they play hard and are known to be "bouncers" who jump up and down in attempts to lick your face. Though he will bark to let you know a stranger is around, he will welcomes them as a long-lost friend. They are medium-sized dogs, typically weighing between 30 to 40 pounds and standing about 17 to 19 inches tall at the shoulder and have a distinctive soft, silky, and wavy coat that is hypoallergenic but requires regular grooming to prevent matting.
BREED OWNER
Wheaten Terriers are go-getters, so they require their owners to provide opportunities to expel their energy and do interesting things. Otherwise you will end up with a frustrated, bored Wheaten that can make a mess of your house and yard. Wheaten Terriers need a vast amount of companionship and do not like being left alone for more than a few hours. Being gone for an extended amount of time during the day will not make a happy Wheaten. They are excellent family dogs and do well in homes with children and other pets. An owner who can provide a loving and inclusive family environment is important.
