BREED PERSONALITY

Maltese tend to be very loving with their family. But their guard dog tendencies can make them somewhat protective around strangers. They can be stubborn when it comes to training, and have a medium-energy level.

Maltese should get at about a half hour to an hour of exercise each day being brisk walks, hikes, fetch, and other play. Puzzle toys and even agility sports can help challenge them mentally. Because of their small size, they don't need that much space to get in a good workout. This breed does not tolerate extreme temperatures well because it does not have an insulating undercoat, a coat or sweater in the winter is a must! Because of the Maltese coat type, consistent grooming  is a necessity. They should be brushed two to three times per week and daily if the coat is kept long.
