RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK

RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK:  A large hound dog breed from Africa that has a short, smooth coat with a distinctive ridge of fur running down the spine.

BREED PERSONALITY

Because they were bred to hunt big game, including lions, ridgebacks were nicknamed the African Lion Hound, and they possess a high prey drive. Rhodesian ridgebacks can be a pleasure to have as part of the family, they are protective, loyal, beautiful dogs and have a lot of love to give, and they don't bark a lot.

BREED OWNER

Though they have many attractive qualities, these dogs are a lot to handle, so they aren't the ideal breed for new dog parents.Rhodesian ridgebacks need a devoted caretaker who can give them daily exercise, as well as consistent training and socialization. These big, powerful dogs can be hard to handle if they aren't well-mannered and fortunately they only need basic grooming. These dogs can become destructive when they're bored, so give them at least an hour of exercise per day in the form of fast walks, jogs, hiking and plain play.
