BREED PERSONALITY

West Highland Terriers can vary greatly, with some being friendly with children, while others prefer to be left alone. Typically, the Westie will not tolerate rough handling, such as a child pulling on its ears or fur, and can be food and toy possessive.This makes regular training from a young age extremely important. Westies do not like having their personal space invaded which means that they may not be the best breed of dog for very young children. Due to the Westies rather large ego, they really seem to act like they're big dogs and they absolutely like to act as if they are the leader.
